- Reaction Unit South Africa officers helped her deliver the baby boy and took her to hospital.
A Durban woman gave birth to a baby boy in an outdoor toilet after going into labour without warning.
The woman, a Malawian national, went into labour while walking past a home in Osindisweni near Verulam, north of Durban on Thursday morning.
She was taken to the toilet outside the house, where she gave birth with the help of female officers from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
RUSA said they got a call for help just before 9:30am.
The officers arrived quickly and found the woman already in active labour. They helped her deliver the baby safely inside the small toilet structure.
An ambulance arrived soon after and took the mother and her newborn to Osindisweni Hospital.
Both the mother and baby are doing well.
