Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has responded to news that the Hawks were investigating her for allegedly instigating the July 2021 unrest that caused infrastructure damage estimated at over R50 billion.
She said she was not intimidated by reports that she is being investigated.
The Hawks said Zuma-Sambudla was mentioned in the statements of some of those who were being investigated as instigators of the unrest.
“My name is Dudu Zuma. I am a daughter of a great man, The G.O.A.T of politics, Jacob Zuma. His blood runs through my veins…I HAVE NO FEAR! I Will Not Be Intimidated! I have beaten the dogs, now the masters are coming out! We see you,” she wrote.
Some 22 suspects were arrested by the Hawks starting on Thursday in KwaZulu-Natal and other provinces for allegedly inciting violence that erupted in July last year.
The instigators were responding to the incarceration of Zuma in the Estcourt Correctional Centre.
They appeared at the Durban Central Magistrate’s Court. Charges included incitement to commit arson and conspiracy to commit public violence.
During the unrest last year, Zuma-Sambudla posted violent scenes with the caption “We see you”.
She also posted about the burning of trucks at the Mooi River toll plaza on the N3 and wrote “KZN we see you”.
Most of the people arrested on Thursday during the Hawks operation were part of a WhatsApp group believed to have been behind the July unrest.
Some of those WhatsApp groups included “eThekwini shutdown” and “Friends of Jacob Zuma”.
The suspects were released on R3,000 bail with a warning that they should not post anything that had to do with their case on social media.
The July unrest caused the looting and destruction of shopping malls in KZN and Gauteng, resulting in more than 350 people losing their lives in the 12 days of turmoil in both provinces.
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo told Scrolla.Africa that they cannot at any stage reveal the names of the suspects they are following.
“We can only release the names once the suspects have appeared in court. So far we can’t even confirm the issue of Duduzile,” said Mbambo.
