Duduzane Zuma has slammed the youth in the ANC for their call on his father Jacob Zuma and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to contest leadership positions.
“Young people are not ready to lead the movement and that is why they are still pinning their hopes on old people,” he said, speaking in Durban on Wednesday evening.
“It is embarrassing that young people such as the ANC Youth league, Sasco and other youth formations are campaigning for the likes of my dad Jacob Zuma, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Zweli Mkhize and other old people to lead the ANC.”
Many young people in the ANC are parts of many campaigns that call for Zuma to be the president again.
They have even created a WhatsApp group called “Jacob Zuma for President”. It has gained momentum with over 500 participants.
Others are in support of Dlamini-Zuma, Mkhize, deputy president David Mabuza, President Cyril Ramaphosa and Lindiwe Sisulu for the presidential race.
Duduzane said the ANC 55th conference presents an opportunity for young people to support each other for the ANC leadership positions.
“These leaders were once young and they took power in 1994. Why is the current youth not taking this opportunity to lead instead of supporting the older people?” he asked.
“The ANC is facing a serious challenge of losing power. If the youth don’t believe in themselves to save it no one is going to do that.”
He said he believes the current challenges need young people to grow the economy in many sectors, especially in technology.
Duduzane has made it clear that he is heading to Nasrec to contest the presidential position of the ANC.
He said in eThekwini region there were those who blocked his chances to be the branch secretary but he also believes that it was their loss not to elect him.
