- A drunk Audi driver with an alcohol reading of 0.64 crashed head-on into a Toyota Avanza in Tembisa on Friday.
- The crash killed a girl aged 10 to 11 and the Avanza driver. A 16-year-old passenger was taken to hospital.
A drunk driver killed a young girl and the driver of a Toyota Avanza in a crash in Tembisa on Friday, 20 March 2026.
The crash happened on Olifantsfontein Road and South View. A 30-year-old man was driving an Audi when he drove head-on into the Avanza.
A girl aged between 10 and 11 years old died at the scene. The driver of the Avanza also died. Paramedics certified both dead at the scene.
A 16-year-old girl was a passenger in the Avanza. She was badly injured and taken to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital for urgent treatment.

Officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) responded to the crash. Spokesperson Thabiso Makgato said: “Officers conducted an alcohol test on the Audi driver, which returned a reading of 0.64.”
Police arrested the Audi driver. He will face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, culpable homicide and fleeing the scene.
The EMPD is continuing its investigation.
