Drama is becoming the name of the game at the DStv Premiership

The DStv Premiership has been suffering dramatic incidents on a day to day basis throughout the 2021/22 season.

The latest incident sees Maritzburg United likely to be awarded maximum points despite losing their match 3-2 against Cape Town City.

According to reports, the match was played under protest following a bizarre incident where the team manager’s vehicle was broken into a few hours before kick-off.

The Team of Choice lodged a protest before the match started on Tuesday afternoon after the Citizens failed to produce the players’ cards before the match.

It is understood that the protest was signed by team captains Thamsanqa Mkhize of City and Phumlani Ntshangase of United in front of match commissioner Morne Daniels before the start of the match as per the rules of the PSL handbook.

The handbook further states that any team who failed to provide players playing cards will face the league’s disciplinary committee (DC) so City should brace themselves for at least two cases at the league’s DC.

They still have to state their side of the story as to why they should be handed all three points after the Kaizer Chiefs’ no show last Saturday. In this regard everything is likely to go in their favour following the PSL chairman’s comments made on Tuesday.

The PSL handbook states that no team can request a postponement of a fixture for Covid-related reasons.

While City might be handed those three points from Chiefs’ match, they could be forfeited maximum points against Maritzburg United.

The drama is likely to continue with Chiefs confirming that they won’t be honouring another match away at Golden Arrows on Wednesday. To make matters worse, all these cases at the PSL desk will have to wait after two of the league’s top lawyers quit this week.

The league is yet to announce who will be replacing them with the DC set to be busy in the coming weeks.
