- Don Mlangeni-Nawa fell seriously ill in August 2024 and spent months battling pain before he died.
- His uncle said the actor had stomach problems and other health issues, but stayed cheerful.
Actor Don Mlangeni-Nawa spent the last eight months of his life fighting a painful illness before dying on 16 April 2025.
His uncle, actor Mabutho “Kid” Sithole, told Sunday World that Mlangeni-Nawa became seriously sick in August 2024.
“He had problems with some parts of his body and often had stomach pains,” Sithole said.
While his family has not shared the exact cause of death, they confirmed he had been unwell for a long time.
In a statement, the family said: “He was the heart of our family, a loving father, brother, and friend. To the world, he was a talented and respected actor who brought life to every role he played.”
Sithole said his nephew remained cheerful despite the pain. “He liked fun things like picnics and entertainment. He didn’t get involved in arguments or politics. He enjoyed the lighter side of life,” he said.
He also shared his frustration that Mlangeni-Nawa wasn’t properly recognised while alive.
“South Africa doesn’t always honour its artists. It’s sad,” he said.
Mlangeni-Nawa was best known for his roles in hit shows like Isidingo and Hlala Kwabafileyo. He became one of South Africa’s most loved TV actors.
His wife, Regina Nawa, said funeral and memorial details will be announced soon, along with the cause of death.
