Amapiano DJ Karri wants to help as many talented artists as possible achieve their breakthrough performances.

In recent years the artist has been trending for his work in helping fallen artists like Mujava, GPG, Alostro and recently, Bafana Bafana star Lerato Chabangu.

In an interview with Scrolla.Africa, the Mathibestad-born DJ and producer said he knows the pain of struggling to make a small breakthrough in the industry.

“It took me over 10 years to be here. I had to fight. I have been through artists trying to sabotage my events and career but I remained unshaken,” he said.

“It shouldn’t be like that. Even when I was organising events, I used to make sure that upcoming artists were part of the lineup. Now that I have the key, I am opening doors for others and hope they will use the opportunity for their betterment and keep the door open for others.”

The DJ rubbished rumours that he is using the campaign to build his name.

“I don’t need this initiative on my CV. My work speaks for itself. I started helping those in need before I became a household name and I will continue as long as I am in a position to do that.

“Over the years I have become used to digging deep into my pockets to help others. I expect nothing in return other than that they should extend the same courtesy to others. Our fight should not be against each other but defeating poverty,” he said.

“I want to be remembered for my good deeds more than as a DJ.”

The artist has registered his NGO, Philanthropy with DJ Karri, which reaches out to try and improve the lives of South African performing artists.

He encouraged those who wanted to join him on the journey to contact him.
