Metro FM radio presenter, Dineo Ranaka has been suspended from the station after sharing a video of herself dancing on the studio’s furniture.
She was participating in the challenge initiated by the “Umlando” song which has several celebrities showcasing their moves on social media. The video, which shows Ranaka dancing on top of a studio desk and chair in the SABC radio studio in Auckland Park, has since been removed from her social media accounts.
Ranaka’s actions have resulted in misconduct charges.
“Unlike other people who did the challenge, she danced on top of expensive furniture,” a source told City Press.
SABC group executive for corporate affairs, Gugu Ntuli, confirmed Ranaka’s suspension.
“Dineo Ranaka is not scheduled on Metro FM at this stage. As a matter of policy the corporation does not discuss matters relating to its independent contractors in public,” Ntuli said.
The 38-year-old presenter has been absent from her show The Bridge which airs on Metro FM between 9am and 12pm on weekdays. Marian Nyako-Lartey has stepped in on a temporary basis.
The video and subsequent suspension has social media arguing as to whether the decision is justifiable. The video is nearing 500,000 views on Twitter.
