When it was announced that Mzansi’s DiepCity won’t return for a third season next year, many fans were left despondent.
But what might please ardent drama series viewers is the latest news that Mduduzi Mabaso, who played gangster Mgedeza in the award-winning telenovela, will grace their screens before the end of this week.
SABC 3’s The Estate has roped in Mabaso, who will make his debut on 9 December.
Producers say Khulekani, the character Mabaso will be playing, is a traditionally inclined but
global man, assertive and passionate.
“Khulekani is dominant, fearless and cares about his family and his sister Noxolo, played by Lerato Mvelase.”
The Estate’s storyline centres on daily dramas that probe hot topical issues: land and identity, corruption, patronage, money (old and new), power, class, and equality, all told through a colourful mix of South African families who live in the luxury Echelon Estate, and the neighbouring community in Thembalethu township.
It boasts an array of top actors that include Sdumo Mtshali, Aubrey Poo, Matli Mohapeloa, Lorcia Cooper, Moopi Mothibeli and Anga Makubalo.
Commenting on his debut, Mabaso first chuckled: “When one door closes another opens, that’s how it is in this industry. My fans from my time on Rhythm City and currently on DiepCity will see me evolve and I will do my best to portray well any role given to me.”
SABC video entertainment marketing manager Dichaba Phalatse said the channel is delighted to have Mabaso on board.
“We promise the viewers a heated storyline within the world of Echelon.”
