The Delhi Capitals beat the Lucknow Super Giants yet again this season to keep the playoff race wide open heading into the final few days of league action.
It was a dream night in Delhi. Not just for the Capitals but for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well, whose reliance on other results for a playoff spot has now come to an end after that result.
Delhi’s 19-run win saw them being put into bat and scoring 208/4 in their 20 overs.
Abhishek Porel top scored with 58 off 33 while Tristan Stubbs (57), Shai Hope (38) and returning captain Rishabh Pant (33) looked sharp too.
In the chase, KL Rahul’s side got off to the worst possible start, with four wickets falling for just 44 runs four overs into the powerplay.
Nicholas Pooran and Arshad Khan made a miracle look possible for the Super Giants in the middle with an incredible 61 and 58 runs respectively.
It was not to be though, as Ishant Sharma finished with three wickets while the other bowlers chipped in with one apiece to restrict the visitors to just 189/9 in their 20 overs.
Delhi’s win means they can still technically qualify, albeit mathematically, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad being required to heavily lose their two remaining games.
The result was more positive for RCB than any other side though, with the Faf du Plessis troops’ remarkable comeback in the competition eyeing its peak.
An 18-run or better win over the Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru on Saturday will send them through, regardless of what happens elsewhere.
