The South African Music Awards (Samas) winners from this year’s ceremony, which took place about a month ago, have finally received their trophies.
This delay in delivery is part of the standard awards process, the awards spokesperson said.
Sama spokesperson Lesley Mofokeng, a former journalist, explained that the process of engraving trophies post-ceremony and then sending them to winners has always been the norm for Samas, Citizen reported.
Rapper K.O, also known as Ntokozo Mdluli, was among those who recently received their awards. He took to social media to acknowledge the contributions of Young Stunna, Blxckie, Capasso, and Samro.
K.O’s hit “Sete”, from his fourth studio album SR3, won the Samro Highest Airplay Composer Award and the Capasso for Most Streamed Song Award.
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (Samro) and the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (Capasso) both recognised the song’s streaming success.
Beyond his musical achievements, K.O recently got into entrepreneurship by opening a “multi-purpose retail store” in Rosebank.
Named SWave, this store offers a range of services including sneaker cleaning, a juice bar cocktail, apparel, and luxury SWave ice cream.
The store’s launch, which coincided with Aids Day, saw support from fellow artists like Stogie T, L-Tido, and DA L.E.S, as well as Metro FM personality Tbo Touch, who was one of the first customers.
Although he didn’t win at the Metro FM Awards where he was the most nominated artist, K.O has had a successful year.
His presence was also felt internationally, with nominations from BET in the Hip Hop Awards and their main category, and a UK tour overlapping with the Metro FM Awards.
