  • Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects who stole R36,300 worth of goods from the family home in Malamulele.

A Limpopo father was forced to listen helplessly as armed robbers shot his son and raped his teenage daughter during a home invasion in Malamulele on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old man was asleep when two men wearing balaclavas broke into his home at around 2:30am, pointed a gun at him and demanded money and cellphones.

After telling the robbers he had no cash, the terrified father handed over his cellphone before being tied up with rope.

The gunmen then moved to the other rooms where his 20-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter were sleeping.

Minutes later, the father heard gunshots. He managed to untie himself and rushed to check on his children.

He found his son bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to the forehead and discovered his daughter had been raped by one of the attackers.

The robbers fled with items worth R36,300, including a cellphone, laptop, chainsaw, TV, bicycle and grinder.

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said both victims were rushed to the local hospital, but the son died from his injuries on arrival.

“I have directed the police in Malamulele to use maximum resources to ensure that the suspects involved in this heinous crime are brought to book to face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

Police have opened a case of house robbery, murder and rape.

Anyone with information about the suspects should contact Sergeant Shadrack Nghezimani Mabunda on 063 447 7375 or 082 319 9724, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
