Four young cyclists are riding all the way from Gauteng to Cape Town to help struggling children get the basics they need.
The group wants to raise money, food, clothes and toiletries for at least 3,000 children and schools in poor communities.
They will kick off their long ride on Sunday, 1 June in Lenasia Extension 2 and are begging locals to support their cause.
The Chain Gang (T.C.G) is on a mission to change lives, one pedal at a time.
The group of four young cyclists are riding over 1,300 kilometres from Gauteng to Cape Town in the name of charity.
Their goal? To raise money and get donations of clothes, food and toiletries for needy children across Gauteng.
Katlego Mamogale, 29, Moses Mogweemang, 38, Anele Kono, 30, and Sphiwe Zucule, 24, are the riders behind the big-hearted project.
They call themselves The Chain Gang and want to help at least 3,000 children and schools.
“We need money and donations of second-hand clothes and other basic items,” said Mamogale, who leads the group.
He said they were inspired by the Gauta BMX cycling group, who made a similar ride from Burgersfort to Cape Town earlier this year.
The Chain Gang has already identified three schools in Soweto that will be among the first to receive help.
“Our school is in a very poor area of Soweto called Phiri. Many children live with grandparents, and some homes are child-headed,” said the principal at Phumuzile Primary School.
The charity ride will start on Sunday, 1 June in Lenasia Extension 2. From there, the cyclists will make their way through the country, aiming to finish in Cape Town with full hearts and hopeful stories.
They are calling on anyone who can help — with cash, clothes or anything useful — to step up and support their journey.
