Crime bites: Police catch five suspects for cop killing

Nelspruit – Mpumalanga police have caught five people aged 29 to 40 for killing Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius in Ermelo. They found their burned car near Extension 7. Pretorius, who led the Vehicle Identification Unit, was shot dead in his police car on Thursday, 16 January. The killer fled in a white car.

Polokwane – A court in Mokopane has given Malose Jimmy Masosa, 38, eighteen years in jail for killing his wife, Mokgaetjie Lydia Tshabi, 37. The couple fought outside the Tseu Tavern in Mapela Danisani at midnight on 11 May 2024. On their way home, Masosa stabbed his wife multiple times. When her brother tried to help, Masosa chased him away. He then dragged her to a nearby house and left her dead.

Virginia – Free State police arrested a man, 33, on Tuesday for raping and attempting to kill a two-year-old girl. Police found the badly hurt child covered with a jacket after someone reported child abuse. Doctors confirmed she was raped. The man appeared in court on Wednesday and will stay in jail until his next court date on 22 January.

Polokwane – Police arrested a man, 42, for rape on Thursday. A woman, 20, went drinking with her landlord’s friend in the Ladanna Industrial area near Polokwane. The man then raped her in his car. Police caught him on Friday at a house in Zone 5H. He appeared in Seshego court on Monday.

Sekhukhune – Limpopo police caught two men selling drugs at Groblersdal taxi rank after getting a tip-off. They found one man, 31, with rock, nyaope, dagga and R656 cash. They also caught another man, 53, with illegal Remington Gold cigarettes. Both will appear in court soon.
