Crime bites: Cops arrest man for killing girlfriend and her son

Bloemfontein – A 38-year-old man was arrested for killing his 35-year-old girlfriend and her young son during an argument at the girlfriend’s home on Sunday, 8 September. When the girlfriend’s mother went to neighbours for help, the man allegedly killed the victims and ran away. Police later caught him in Botshabelo. He will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this week.

Tzaneen – On 29 August, the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 34-year-old man to 25 years in prison for rape. He tricked a 10-year-old boy into going to an outside toilet and raped him. He raped the boy again the next day. The boy told his grandmother, who reported it to the police.

Tafelkop – The Limpopo High Court gave life sentences to Kgomotso Pitsi Mmaphaka, 38, and Lethope Donald Tshehla, 33, for killing and robbing a spaza shop owner. They also received extra prison time for other crimes. On 13 April 2022, they shot the owner and stole his car, phone and money.

Phuthaditjhaba – Police need help finding the family of a dead man found in the Namahadi River on 28 August. The body of the unidentified man, about 30 years old, was badly decomposed. His hands and legs were tied with plastic.

Polokwane – Capricorn District police are looking for suspects in a murder case. On 31 August, they found the body of a badly injured man between Bok and Excelsior streets. The motive for the murder is unknown.
