Registration for people aged 35-49 years will begin on 15 July to start Covid-19 vaccination from 1 August.

Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has announced a major boost to South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccination plans, with vaccines now being made available to more age groups.

In a media briefing on Friday, Kubayi-Ngubane said her department had secured funding from the Treasury this week to allow for vaccinations on weekends.

She said that the start date for weekend vaccinations will be 1 August.

There are currently 3.6 million vaccines available in SA.

Kubayi-Ngubane said they currently have enough stock for the next 18 days.

South Africa has reported 22,910 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, with 63,499 deaths since March last year.

The total number of vaccines administered is over 4 million.
