- Lekompo artist Shebeshxt appears at Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo as his bail hearing continues after last week’s postponement.
- Prosecutors say Shebeshxt pressured witnesses, questioned claims about a child in Krugersdorp and argued his ongoing cases show he ignored the law.
People waiting inside the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday watched as popular lekompo artist Shebeshxt returned to the dock, hoping to be released on bail.
The musician, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, appeared as his bail application continued after being postponed last week Thursday. The delay allowed both the State and the defence time to finish their closing arguments.
State prosecutor Kgaugelo Lekoloane challenged claims made by the defence about Shebeshxt’s personal life. The court heard that there is no proof an alleged eight-year-old child exists.
The State said the child is claimed to live with her mother in Krugersdorp, but there is also no proof that Shebeshxt provides financial support.
Lekoloane also told the court that Shebeshxt allegedly tried to influence witnesses and victims. According to the prosecutor, friends of the accused allegedly threatened people to withdraw their cases.
The State argued that although Shebeshxt is not on parole and has no previous convictions keeping him in custody, this should not count in his favour.
Prosecutors said he is facing other cases, has been granted bail before and allegedly continued committing offences while out.
According to the State, this shows a pattern of ignoring the law and is a strong reason why bail should be refused.
The defence rejected all these claims and asked the court to grant Shebeshxt bail.
The case has now been postponed for judgment. The court will give its decision on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, at 11:30.
