- The Pietermaritzburg High Court dismissed Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela’s attempt to block King Misuzulu’s divorce and marriage to his third wife.
- The Queen claimed the King breached their agreement to change their civil union, allowing him to marry again, and left her without consultation.
The KZN High Court sitting in Pietermaritzburg on Monday dismissed an attempt by the second wife of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to stop their divorce and the wedding of the Zulu King to his third wife.
Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela of kwaNkomonye Royal Palace shocked the nation when she filed court papers to interdict the wedding of King Misuzulu and Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni of Machobeni Royal Palace.
The wedding is taking place on Sunday and will be conducted in line with the Shembe Baptist Church religion.
Queen kaMayisela in her statement said she never wanted to embarrass the King and the Zulu nation but she wanted all marriage protocols to be followed.
“I was forced to go to court because His Majesty breached our commitments on the realignment of our civil union that would have allowed him to take another wife,” said Queen kaMayisela.
She revealed that they went to a marriage expert to discuss their divorce plan.
She said that one of the workable plans was to change their civil marriage, which was in community of property, to a traditional customary union that would allow the King to marry as many wives as he wished.
She stated that they agreed on that option but later the King went AWOL and left her with their two kids.
Queen kaMayisela said she was then surprised by the King taking a third wife without consulting her.
The wedding will start with the umkhehlo ceremony, which is an exchange of gifts between the groom’s and the bride’s families.
