Costa Titch dies under flashing stage lights

By Staff Writer

Costa Titch spent the last night of his life dancing away on a brightly lit stage bringing joy to his fans.

But that performance under the flashing lights at the Ultra Music Festival in Johannesburg would be the last he would ever play.

Dancer and musician Costa Tsobanoglou, known as Costa Titch, 27, died on Saturday night after suffering an alleged seizure while performing on stage.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Costa Titch is seen dancing before abruptly stumbling to the ground. A person on the stage grabs him and helps him up. He tries to continue performing but again he falls to the ground on the brightly lit stage between his fans and crew.

Costa Titch, who had mastered infusing Amapiano and hip-hop, is well known for songs including “Big Flexa”, “Goat” and “Just Do It”.

The Nelspruit-born artist’s death is the latest sudden death of a rapper to shock South Africans.

In February, rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, died during a cold-blooded shooting incident in Durban. Just a year before AKA’s death, in February 2022, rapper Rikhado Makhado, popularly known as Riky Rick, committed suicide in his studio in Johannesburg. Both AKA and Riky Rick were close to Costa Titch.

Music industry leaders, politicians and ordinary people are mourning Costa Titch’s death on social media.
