The SA Communist Party has called on the ANC to exclude “DA forces” and the “anti-revolutionary” force that is the MK party.

Solly Mapaila, the party’s general secretary, said a meeting of the SACP Politburo identified the DA as the main enemy of the ANC and should not be included in the proposed Government of National Unity (GNU).

“We support the minority government with GNU features without the role and participation of DA-led forces. So we are clear about our anti-capitalist trajectory,” he said.

“The problems we face in this country are because we have pursued over the years and have been beholden to the interests of capital who have always threatened us about the stability of our economy when they have actually destroyed our economy.”

Mapaila said the voters rejected the DA and neoliberal forces at the polls and that is why the DA got only 22% of the vote.

The SACP is seen as the think tank of Cosatu and the ANC and has most influence on Cosatu, which has already rejected any involvement of the DA in the GNU.

Cosatu said such an arrangement would not be in the interests of workers.

Cosatu parliamentary coordinator Matthew Parks said Cosatu and the SACP will make their submission to the meeting of the ANC national executive committee on Thursday.

He said Cosatu was concerned about the MK party’s anti-Constitution position and did not see it as an ideal partner.

Cosatu general secretary Solly Phetoe said the labour federation will reject any association with the DA.

“This is one of the political parties that has gone publicly to call for the scrapping of the minimum wage and going publicly to attack National Health Insurance.

“We will definitely, publicly and unapologetically reject coalition with the DA,” Phetoe told the media on Wednesday.

Phetoe said the DA believes workers have too many rights and has called for the relaxation of labour laws to make it easy for employers to fire workers.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said the meeting of the ANC national working committee on Tuesday opted for the GNU as the best coalition strategy.

She said the party has had initial talks with the DA, IFP, PA, and EFF. She said ANC efforts to negotiate with former President Jacob Zuma’s MK party were met with hostility.
