- Police will get extra cash and faster promotions to make them happier and work better.
- Special teams fighting cash van robbers and ATM bombers will get bonus payments for dangerous work.
Police officers will get extra money and quicker promotions to make them work better.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said on Friday that they want to fix the problem of police officers waiting too long for promotions.
He told reporters in Tshwane that good police officers deserve better pay and job growth.
Police boss Fannie Masemola said detectives will get special payments on top of what they already earn.
“The extra money is on top of the pay rise that our working police already get,” Masemola said.
Special police teams will get extra cash to stop them from quitting dangerous jobs.
The National Intervention Unit, which stops cash-in-transit robberies and ATM bombings, will receive special payments.
Thirty-five police officers in this special unit will receive badges after finishing tough training.
The Counter Assault Team handles very dangerous jobs. They will also get more money.
Masemola said police have more than 43,000 cars across all nine provinces but need more.
New vehicles will go to police stations first, so people can see more police on the streets.
Police will also hire more people to fix vehicles faster at police workshops.
Mchunu said he is angry that some police officers take bribes. Last year, 392 police officers were fired for being corrupt.
This year, fewer police officers have been fired.
“We will not allow any corruption in the police,” Mchunu said.
He told police to stay away from taxi fights because it makes them look bad.
