When they received a complaint about an ‘after tears’ party taking place with more than 200 people, the Joburg Metro Police didn’t waste time.
They immediately went to the place in Protea, Soweto, to disperse the crowd.
But the four officers got more than they bargained for.
According to JMPD spokesman Wayne Minaar the officers were assaulted while trying to confiscate alcohol at the party.
“Our officers were assaulted by the crowd and they had to get treatment at hospital. One suffered a fractured nose and left hand,” said Minaar, adding that the officers have since been discharged.
Two suspects have been arrested and charged with assault while a Golf was impounded.
Minaar warned the community against having parties of any sort and drinking alcohol publicly during lockdown level 3 or they would be arrested.
