- Police arrested a man in Mfuleni after finding two illegal guns hidden in his house and five phones he couldn’t explain.
- In a separate raid, police caught a teenager with tik and cocaine worth R68,560 in Mitchells Plain.
Police arrested a man in Mfuleni, Cape Town, after finding two illegal guns and suspected stolen phones at his home.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said police got a tip-off about stolen guns at the address in Extension 6.
“Upon arrival at the address, they searched the suspect and found one firearm with ammunition in his possession. Upon further inspection of the premises, they recovered another firearm and ammunition that was hidden under the mattress of his bed,” said Van Wyk.
Police also found five cellphones that the suspect couldn’t explain how he got. They believe the phones were stolen or robbed from people.
“They subsequently arrested the suspect on the mentioned charges; he will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once charged,” said Van Wyk.
In a separate case, police K9 unit members were working in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, on Thursday when someone told them about drug dealing in the area.
“They reacted immediately and found drugs in possession of the suspect. The drugs confiscated were 180 sachets of tik and 100 straws of cocaine with an estimated street value of R68,560. A 19-year-old male was arrested and detained at Lentegeur SAPS; he will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged,” said Van Wyk.
Lindelwa Booi, 40, who was recently robbed in Mfuleni, hopes to find her stolen items among those recovered.
“I am going to visit the police station. I was robbed, and I am certain that I will find mine with the ones confiscated by SAPS. We get robbed while walking in the streets by criminals using different cars; we don’t feel safe anymore,” said Booi.
