Cops arrest KZN man pretending to be a king

Gcina Bethwell Nkosi, who falsely claimed to be an Amajuba district king, was arrested last week.

He was freed on bail after appearing in the Danhausser Magistrate’s Court.

Cooperative Governance MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi said: “This sends a clear message to other potential fraudsters that law enforcement agencies will not tolerate individuals who attempt to deceive communities with false claims of kingship, which are nothing more than figments of their imagination.”

Buthelezi said falsely claiming to be an inkosi or a king is an offence in terms of the KwaZulu-Natal Traditional Leadership and Governance Act No. 5 of 2005.

He praised the police for upholding the law and protecting traditional leadership.

Buthelezi said there’s only one King in KZN – King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

On Heritage Day last Tuesday, Inkosi Sifiso Shinga, chair of the KZN Traditional House of Khoi-San Leadership, also warned fake kings to stop or be arrested.
