Detectives arrested two men on Tuesday for killing four people at a barbershop in Khayelitsha.
The shooting incident took place at Site C in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Saturday, where three children aged five, 11 and 12, as well as a 30-year-old man, were shot dead.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said that as part of the ongoing investigations into the multiple murders, the suspects face four murder charges and nine counts of attempted murder.
They will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
“With the investigation unfolding, the possibility of more arrests and further charges being pursued cannot be ruled out,” said Potelwa.
Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, said the suspects must now come clean so that whoever else might be involved can face the consequences.
“This is the type of policing we require consistently, as it’s a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when SAPS optimises their intelligence,” said Allen.
A resident, speaking anonymously, hopes and prays that the detectives have the right people.
“I don’t want to celebrate yet because I have seen these things happening,” said the resident.
“In big cases like this, our officers sometimes make mistakes in catching the wrong suspects. They get arrested, and then we hear they were released because there was no evidence. I hope we won’t hear such news.”
