Three of the four quarter final games went to penalty shootouts as Argentina, Canada, Colombia and Uruguay booked their spots in the Copa America semis.
With a last four tie against Colombia on the line, all eyes were on Brazil and Uruguay in the early hours of Sunday morning — with the prime time kick off in Vegas going the distance after a feisty but goalless draw in open play.
Sergio Rochet was the hero as misses from the spot by Eder Militao and Douglas Luiz sent Uruguay through; and Brazil crashing out .
The Uruguayans remain a favourite at the competition, however following their 5-0 win over Panama, Colombia will keep their hopes up of making the final in Miami when the sides clash on Tuesday night.
The other semi-final will see defending champions Argentina face-off with Canada.
The Canadians beat Venezuela on Friday after Lionel Messi’s side, despite his miss from the spot, overcame Ecuador 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Houston.
The last four ties will take place in New Jersey and North Carolina on Tuesday and Wednesday night, hours after the Euro 2024 semi-finals.
