The controversial administrator of the troubled Inkosi Mtubatuba local municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal has been fired.

Dr Siyabonga Ntuli was told that his last day in the position is Friday, 28 June.

Ntuli was appointed by the previous MEC for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Bongi Sithole-Moloi of the ANC.

The IFP rejected Ntuli’s return, claiming that the municipality’s troubles started because of him. The party took the matter to court and lost, allowing Ntuli to begin his duties.

However, the department, now under the control of MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi from the IFP, has sacked Ntuli in a letter.

“His last day as the Ministerial Representative is 28 June 2024,” reads the letter which Scrolla.Africa obtained from sources in the municipality.

Ntuli has been replaced by Bongani Mnguni, the former municipal manager of Jozini, Nongoma, and Uthukela district municipalities. Mnguni, from Mahlabathini in Ulundi, is a longtime IFP loyalist.

The letter, dated 28 June 2024, signed by the acting head of the department, Barbara Mgutshini, said Mnguni had been appointed as the new ministerial representative and requested the speaker convene an urgent council meeting to introduce the new representative.

Scrolla.Africa learned from reliable sources that the council was locked in a meeting on

Friday morning to discuss the latest developments.
