Chimamanda pens a “tender and joyful” children’s picture book

Nigeria’s Chimamanda Adichie, one of Africa’s greatest authors, has written a children’s picture, to be published next year.

Adichie will publish the book, Mama’s Sleeping Scarf. under the name Nwa Grace James.

Adichie wrote the book for her daughter, who was three years old at the time.

The story portrays an ordinary day in Lagos following a young girl called Chino as she plays with her mama’s scarf, spots her grandfather on his walk and winds down to go to sleep.

said Adichie is “one of the most important voices in literature today and we feel honoured to publish her first children’s book on the HarperCollins list.
