Kaizer Chiefs’ Premier Soccer League woes deepened following a 2-0 defeat by Chippa United at a muddy Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday.
Former Orlando Pirates forward Bienvenu Eva Nga broke the deadlock after 21 minutes before Sinoxolo Kwayiba sealed victory on 32 minutes.
It was the fourth successive winless league match for mid-tablers Amakhosi while the Chilli Boys climbed a place up the ladder to position 10.
Amakhosi arrived in East London attempting to honour the late defender Luke Fleurs with a full set of maximum points but it turned out to be a difficult afternoon.
Coach Cavin Johnson opted for experience in his starting line-up with the return of defender Njabulo Nngcobo, central midfielders Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart as well as forwards Ranga Chivaviro and Christian Saile Basomboli.
Dillan Solomons was handed a rare start at right-back while Chippa goalkeeper Darren Johnson was making his debut in the absence of Stanley Nwabali.
The home side got their breakthrough when Eva Nga headed in a corner kick from Justice Chabalala, giving Amakhosi shot-stopper Bruce Bvuma no chance.
On the half-hour mark, Eva Nga almost grabbed a brace when he came face-to-face with Bvuma but surprisingly shot wide.
Chippa then doubled their advantage two minutes later through Sinoxolo Kwayiba who shot, at the first time, after being set up by Ayabulela Konqobe.
Konqobe then had his own chance five minutes into the second but narrowly missed the target.
Chiefs almost reduced arrears through Saile, who had been released by Pule Mmodi, but Johnson denied him.
The Chippa custodian was back, but this time around to brilliantly punch to safety Siyethemba Sithebe’s effort with 18 minutes remaining.
