Chiefs plead for patience after opening day defeat

Kaizer Chiefs supporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has pleaded with supporters to be patient with head coach Arthur Zwane after losing their opening game of the season.

Motaung believes that Zwane is capable of winning silverware this season despite losing the first DStv Premiership match.

On Saturday night Amakhosi were beaten 1-0 by Royal AM in Durban but Motaung Jr reiterated his faith in the new technical team.

“We know this club is known for winning, we haven’t lost our minds, that is our focus. We have the timelines of what we want to achieve. It will take time to get there but it won’t wait 10 years,” said Motaung Jr on SAfm.

A former Chiefs player himself, he added that under Zwane they will wait to do their best but for now they will need their fans to be patient.

“All Chiefs fans want to win the league, want to win trophies. We want to get back where we dominate and crush our opposition, especially our rivals, our Soweto rivals [Orlando Pirates and Swallows FC].”

Amakhosi last won competitive silverware back in 2015 when they won the league under the mentorship of Stuart Baxter.

“We have to be realistic. We understand what happened in the last seven years. We now find ourselves with a coach who deeply understands the football culture of the team.

“He deeply understands the needs of an African player. We do ask the Khosi nation to have a tremendous amount of support. Mangethe needs our support, our players and of course our patience,” added Motaung Jr.

Amakhosi are currently the only premiership team that has yet to sign a foreign player.

Zwane believes in local players but after the Royal AM defeat he made it clear that he wants at least another striker to bolster the team.
