Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson says his players are succumbing to social media pressure as the crisis at the club deepens.
The Soweto giants were held 0-0 by struggling Moroka Swallows on Saturday and remain sixth on the Premier Soccer League table.
It was a result which completed a difficult week for Amakhosi after also being eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by National First Division relegation candidates Milford FC.
Chiefs players have been under pressure to deliver and Johnson says it is affecting their mentality.
“It’s not about anxiety, it’s a mentality thing,” Johnson said as per SABC Sport.
“Because you guys write about it on social media and that affects the players.”
Once again, Amakhosi forwards were found wanting upfront where their forwards took turns to miss chances.
Even numerous crosses into the box were no finishers as they resorted to wing play and Johnson admits their attacking frailties are a “concern”
“’We as Kaizer Chiefs – again we’re not happy with ourselves, we need to be more clinical,” Johnson said.
“But again we did not concede which is a plus, but it’s not good enough for us coming from a loss – now we need to pick ourselves up.”
“’It’s always been a concern since I started because football is only nice when you see goals.”
“All my life I said if you score two goals against me I score three goals, if you score six and then I score seven. That’s what I work on wherever I am, but we will come alright.”
The Soweto giants now preparing to host Golden Arrows on Tuesday as they seek to arrest their worsening situation.
Victory against Arrows would be crucial to boost their confidence ahead of next Saturday’s Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
