  • AmaZulu goalkeeper Darren Johnson saved a Glody Lilepo penalty and denied Chiefs repeatedly, earning the Man of the Match award at FNB Stadium.
  • Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef said he was happy with his team’s performance and refused to blame his strikers for missed chances.

Kaizer Chiefs interim co-head coach Khalil Ben Youssef says he was happy with his players even as AmaZulu goalkeeper Darren Johnson frustrated them in a 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium.

Glody Lilepo missed a penalty early on, with Johnson diving to save. The AmaZulu shot-stopper was named Man of the Match after denying Chiefs throughout the game.

Chiefs thought they had scored on the stroke of half time, but Khanyisa Mayo touched in Pule Mmodi’s shot from an offside position, ruling the goal out.

AmaZulu’s Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya put his side in front, before Mduduzi Shabalala equalised for Amakhosi.

Speaking to SuperSport TV, Ben Youssef said: “I am so happy with the performance of the players … everyone saw how many chances we created. The Man of the Match was the AmaZulu ‘keeper.”

Despite another wasteful night in front of goal, the coach refused to criticise his strikers.

“Sometimes unlucky, sometimes missing chances. We have to work and keep going,” he said.

Chiefs now turn their focus to the Carling Knockout last-16 clash against Stellenbosch before the international break.
