Chidimma Adetshina has been looking back on her Miss Universe success after pulling out of the Miss South Africa competition last year.
The Soweto-born law student first became known in 2023 when she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition after a dispute over her nationality and an investigation into her family’s documents.
The incident, along with heavy online attacks, made her wonder if she still had a future in pageants.
Chidimma then moved to Nigeria, where she entered the Miss Universe Nigeria competition.
She went on to win the crown and represented Nigeria at Miss Universe 2024, where she won the Miss Universe Africa & Oceania title and finished among the top contestants in the world.
On Instagram, Chidimma recently looked back on her journey, writing: “Last year this time my dreams were broken in front of my eyes but I am grateful for this journey.”
She reflected on how different her life is now compared to the same time last year, when she was dealing with the controversy in South Africa.
The move to Nigeria allowed her to compete internationally after the drama that ended her South African pageant hopes.
