Cherries leave City stunned

Bournemouth made it back-to-back wins against last season’s top two as Liverpool landed top spot again following the day’s Premier League drama.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal were left in disbelief as the two title contenders suffered away defeats on Saturday afternoon.

At lunchtime, Alexander Isak put the Gunners away as Newcastle United claimed their first win in six league games.

The goal rush belonged to Liverpool, who reclaimed top spot with a comeback win at Anfield.

Brighton went ahead through Ferdi Kadioglu, but Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah rescued the Reds.

The result ensured that Arne Slot became the first ever Liverpool manager to pick up eight wins in his first ten top flight games in charge.

City could not quite do the same at the Vitality Stadium, as they lost 2-1. Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson got the goals for the Cherries in another famous victory for Andoni Iraola’s side.

Elsewhere, Chris Wood scored again as Nottingham Forest broke into the top three with a 3-0 victory over West Ham United.

Ipswich and Leicester drew 1-1 after a late Jordon Ayew equaliser while Southampton beat Everton 1-0 at St Mary’s. Wolves and Crystal Palace played out a 2-2 draw in the late game.

On Sunday, Spurs host Aston Villa before Ruud van Nistelrooy prepares to take charge for his first league game as Manchester United boss when the Red Devils host Chelsea.
