By beating Leicester City, Chelsea have pushed City down to fourth in the Premier League.
They won the match, the penultimate round of the Premier League, scoring two goals to one at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
This is an important comeback for the Blues, after they lost Saturday’s FA Cup final, and a chance for coach Thomas Tuchel to win his first trophy in English football.
Two second half goals – the first from Antonio Rudiger followed by a Jorginho penalty – clinched the victory for Chelsea, while Kelechi Iheanacho came on from the bench to score the consolation goal for City.
The Foxes, now in fourth place, have their Champions League qualification hanging by a thread going into the final match against Spurs.
The win for Chelsea puts their Champions League destiny in their own hands for the season’s final game, whereas Leicester’s destiny relies on Liverpool’s final two results.
After the game, Tuchel was fuming about some of the decisions made by referee Mark Dean.
“Today, we had a clear penalty and then it’s a foul against us. It has to stop of course but we were not worried. At halftime I told the players let’s start again,” said Tuchel.
“I am delighted with the win in front of our fans but the job it’s not done yet. I’m not ready to celebrate yet.”
The top four race for Champions League qualification will be confirmed on the last day, Chelsea will face Aston Villa in the final match at Villa Park on a super Sunday Kick-off at 5pm.
