- Tsakane Matlala was arrested on Tuesday, one of four people taken in over allegations of fraud linked to properties in Gauteng.
- She and three others are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Tsakane Matlala, the wife of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, was arrested on Tuesday morning on allegations of fraud. She reportedly handed herself over to police.
Police arrested Matlala and three others in various parts of Gauteng. SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the four were arrested by the Gauteng Counterintelligence Operations Task Team, though she could not yet reveal their identities beyond confirming Tsakane Matlala’s arrest.
“We do confirm the arrest is in relation to fraud and corruption on a number of cases which relates to the fraudulent acquiring of properties across Gauteng, utilising fraudulent documents,” Mathe said.
“It has to do with one of the suspects’ fraudulent case relating to how he obtained citizenship in the Kingdom of Eswatini.”
All four are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning to face the charges.
The arrests are linked to a separate case involving an allegedly fraudulent R95,000 lease agreement for a property in Waterkloof.
Tsakane is accused of falsifying bank statements to help her husband secure the lease, which he allegedly applied for using an eSwatini identity document. A close associate of Matlala’s was arrested a day earlier in connection with the same matter.
Tsakane Matlala is currently on trial alongside her husband and three co-accused, Musa Kekana, Tiego Floyd Mabusela and Nthabiseng Nzama, on a separate set of 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, linked to three shooting incidents allegedly carried out between August 2022 and January 2024.
