Amapiano fans turned up in numbers on Wednesday night for the candle-lighting ceremony outside the home of the late Amapiano singer Killer Kau.
They were there to honour the memory of the AmaNeighbour hitmaker.
Killer Kau, real name Sakhile Hlatshwayo Makhubu, passed away in the early hours on Monday morning in a car accident in Rustenburg.
Celebrities like Kamo Mphela, Riky Rick, and Zuma were some of the people who attended. Many could not speak as they sobbed uncontrollably.
Killer Kau was discovered through Twitter, after a clip of him and his friend Mbali singing Tholukuthi went viral.
Xolile, Kau’s younger sister, said she still catches herself hoping it’s a dream.
“I’m still hoping he is still coming back to boss me around, telling me to make him food because he is hungry and he has been away at home for a long time,” she said.
“He was still young and had so many dreams. He wanted more in this Amapiano genre and he was prepared to give everything for this music thing.”
She said they are grateful that at the time of his passing he was doing exactly what he loved the most.
Killer Kau’s friend and fellow musician Mpura, real name Mongezi Stuurman, along with Illuminated Greens and DJ Thando Tot died in the accident, along wiht five other people.
A candle-lighting ceremony was held for Mpura in Meadowlands on Thursday afternoon.
