Sizwe Sibiya
Satellite television became a must-have in Mzansi after DStv aired Isibaya, the award-winning Mzansi Magic drama-soapie in 2013. Many people went out to purchase their first DSTV set because of its popularity and the fear of missing out.
A large number of glamorous – and the not so glamorous – reality TV shows have been launched by a handful of DStv channels, which aired mostly American reality TV shows. These started introducing South African stars to the trend.
Artists and personalities – from Kelly Khumalo, Papa Penny, LaSizwe and Khanyi Mbau to rich housewives and even polygamists and Sangomas – have let South Africans see deep into their daily activities after they got their own DStv shows.
Now the Kalawa Jazmee-signee Busiswa – of the famous 2013 hit ‘Ngoku’ which featured Oskido and Uhuru – is getting her piece of the pie too.
On Monday BET Africa announced that Busiswa – whose full name is Busiswa Gqulu, and is from the Eastern Cape – will be launching the ‘Her Majesty: Busiswa’ reality TV show.
“Get ready for a brand new reality show starring the ‘queen of ubumnandi(fun)’.”
Her Majesty: Busiswa starts airing on Saturday, March 20.
