Local South African artist Busiswa has called out Rihanna’s beauty store Fenty Beauty for using a song similar to her Midnight Starring in an advert to promote their Beauty Skin series.
The song used in the advert caught the attention of social media as it sounded very similar to Midnight Starring produced by DJ Maphorisa, DJ Tira, Distruction Boyz with vocals from Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly.
A tweet by the 32-year-old singer said: “Nah. @fentybeauty just used a remake of Midnight Starring with my voice, to avoid paying us for it. I’m sad but it’s the game I guess.”
The producer of the song, DJ Maphorisa, tweeted: “Mara le bareng mo ke cut n paste Sis riri onketsang?” Loosely translated: “This is cut and paste. Sis Riri why are you doing this to me?”
