Buhlebendalo brings healing sound to Untitled Basement

By Selloane Ntshonyane

  • Buhlebendalo performs live on 7 August in Braamfontein, joined by her band and vocalists for a night of healing.
  • Her music blends African spirituality, womanhood and ancestral wisdom, shaped by her journey as a sangoma and artist.

Award-winning singer and spiritual artist Buhlebendalo Mda is back on stage at Untitled Basement in Braamfontein on Thursday, 7 August for an intimate and powerful performance titled Sonics.

Known for her deep, healing voice and rich storytelling, Buhlebendalo will be joined by her Famband musicians: Sima Mataties on drums, Sibusiso Malindzisa on keys, and Luyolo Poni on bass, along with vocalists Sia Mzizi and Lumko Langa.

The performance draws from her two solo albums, Chosi and Hele, creating what organisers describe as a night of collective ritual, reflection, and sonic healing.

Buhlebendalo first rose to fame as a founding member of the multi-award-winning acapella group The Soil. She left the group to pursue a solo career and has since made a name for herself as an artist unafraid to explore themes of African identity, womanhood, and spiritual growth.

Her debut solo album Chosi, released in 2020, was described as a space for healing, especially for women. In a past interview with Glamour SA, she said the project helped her speak healing into herself and others.

Her second album, Hele, released in 2024, continued her path of personal reflection and ancestral discovery, influenced by her four-year sangoma initiation. Music platform Bubblegum Club praised the work for its spiritual depth and emotional truth.

In 2024 and 2025, she followed with powerful singles like “Umzi Watsha,” “Inhlokomo,” and “Zulu,” each rooted in cultural reclamation and self-expression.

Doors open at 7 pm, and the performance starts at 8 pm. Tickets are R350 online through Quicket, and R400 at the door.
