- Police confirmed a case of attempted murder has been opened after businessman and ANC member Brown Mogotsi escaped a shooting in Vosloorus unharmed.
- Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says Mogotsi promised to report to Vosloorus police but has not yet arrived to give his statement.
Police say businessman Brown Mogotsi has not yet given his statement after escaping a shooting in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni on Monday night.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the shooting happened at around 10pm. Officers and forensic experts were sent to the scene to collect evidence.
Gauteng police have opened a case of attempted murder. The red Chevrolet sedan that Mogotsi was travelling in has been seized by police, and the owner of the vehicle is known.
Mathe said Mogotsi was expected to present himself at the Vosloorus police station to open a case and give his statement.
“We encouraged him to open a case, but he said he was traumatised and didn’t feel safe. He promised to be here at 8am, but it’s already past 8. We are still waiting for him,” Mathe said.
She added that it is not yet clear where Mogotsi was coming from or going when the shooting happened.
“Those are some of the details that we will gather from him, and that will help us understand what transpired,” said Mathe.
A neighbour near the N3 highway told Scrolla.Africa she heard gunshots around 10pm.
“I don’t know how many shots were fired, but it happened right outside my house,” she said.
Mogotsi’s name has appeared in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating alleged corruption in the criminal justice system, which he has denied.
