Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos has expressed his desire to remain coach of the national team, but not without some conditions.
The Belgian will meet with Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza to discuss several issues.
While the meeting is set to take place in the coming days, Broos has not held back on what he wants to get out of it.
Since taking charge of Bafana in 2021, Broos has not been able to meet with all the PSL team managers. This is something he has stressed as being vitally important to him.
“We have new players now and these new players you can only see when they play for Bafana. Because the clubs will not release them for the Olympics [Under-23 team] or the qualifiers for Chan [the African Nations Championship for locally-based teams],” Broos said per FarPost.
“They will not release them when we play qualifiers for Chan. I can’t always test the players with Bafana Bafana because if you play qualifiers, you can’t risk that it will not succeed.
“They can show skills there and have international experience which is important for them. It will be easy for me. I hope there will be some collaboration from the clubs and PSL, that they release players for the games, so we can build the team.”
On meeting with the 16 league coaches, Broos said that it can all happen in one sitting.
“I don’t want to make 16 trips, 16 times to say the same story to a coach. How can you progress in your relationship if you go and meet every coach in private, and when he asks something I can only answer to him? There will be no interaction with the other coaches.
“What’s the use of travelling 16 times to different clubs? I want them together, and everyone will get a chance to say what they need to say. When everyone is there, we can have a discussion.”
Bafana are currently preparing for their friendlies against Andorra and Algeria later this month. It will be their first set of games since claiming bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations.
