Borussia Dortmund battered in Barcelona

By Razeen Gutta

The La Liga leaders were 4-0 victors in the Uefa Champions League quarter final first leg on Wednesday.

Goals from Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and a Robert Lewandowski brace against his former club helped the Catalans to their biggest Champions League knockout stage win in over five years.

For Dortmund, it was their joint-heaviest ever defeat in the European Cup, with Barcelona’s xG of 3.94 to their 0.95 pretty much telling the story of the evening.

While it is still only halfway in the quarter final ties, this one does seem to be the most done of the lot, with last season’s finalists needing a miracle in Germany next week if they are to even dream of a place in the last four.

Over in Paris, things were a little closer as far as the scoreline was concerned.

Aston Villa will host PSG next week with the aggregate advantage at 3-1 to the Parisians after goals from Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes saw the French giants comeback from Morgan Rogers’ early opener.

PSG have now beaten all of Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa this season. It is just the fourth time a team has beaten three Premier League sides in the same Champions League campaign.
