Things haven’t been going well for Kaizer Chiefs and it doesn’t look as if they will get better any time soon.
Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 2-1 defeat against Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening in their DStv Premiership encounter. Tashreeq Morris and Bradley Ralani scored in either half before substitute Keayrn Baccus pulled one back for Amakhosi.
This result leaves Amakhosi stuck in 11th place – eight points ahead of 15th placed Chippa United. City moved up to 6th position.
Amakhosi next play run-away log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria’s Loftus Versfeld stadium on Sunday afternoon and three days later they play Chippa United, who are also trying to move away from the relegation zone.
After 30 games, Amakhosi have registered nine wins, nine defeats and 12 draws.
Their recent history tells a sorry tale.
Italian coach Giovanni Solinas was appointed in 2018 and he lasted six months after a string of poor results.
German tactician Ernst Middendorp was roped in to repair the damage but it was too late.
By the end of the season, Middendorp could only manage a Nedbank Cup final which he lost at the hands of TS Galaxy. In 2019, Middendorp turned Amakhosi into a formidable team but they let a 13-point lead in the PSL slip through their fingers allowing Sundowns to snatch victory.
Hunt could still save his job with the credit he banked from gaining the team qualification for the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League.
