South Africans are keeping their fingers crossed that Bonang Matheba lands the job replacing Steve Harvey as the host of Miss Universe.
There are major changes underway at the Miss Universe organisation, including the departure of its charismatic host.
Earlier this month, the popular comedian parted ways with the pageant after five consecutive years.
Since then, rumours around the country have steadily grown that Matheba, the award-winning television presenter, former Metro FM presenter and actress could be lined up to replace him.
The new owner of the Miss Universe Organisation, Jakapong “Anne” Jakrajutatip, has asked fans to suggest new hosts and Matheba is emerging as a frontrunner.
According to the Binge Pop blog, the names of Matheba, Jeannie Mai-Jenkins, Zuri Hall and Ashley Graham have emerged at the top of a list of potential candidates to replace Harvey.
The organisation was purchased by Jakrajutatip, a Thai media tycoon and transgender rights advocate, for $20 million back in October 2022. This marks the first time the beauty pageant organisation has been owned by a woman.
Over on Twitter, Matheba, who hails from Mahikeng in the North West, is leading the pack, thanks to her legions of loyal fans.
The 71st Miss Universe pageant will be held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 14 January 2023.
