Seldom has a national sports hero enjoyed such broad support as Siya Kolisi has since running out as South Africa’s first black Springbok captain in June 2018.

It didn’t hurt that his team are global champions and, by winning two consecutive Rugby World Cups, have united the nation behind the Springboks.

His marriage to Rachel (née Smith) in 2016 only added to Kolisi’s “glory against all odds” life story. The couple has two children: son Nicholas Siyamthanda (born 2015) and daughter Keziah (born 2017).

Businesswoman Rachel is an impressive personality. For the past two years, she has served as CEO of the Kolisi Foundation, among other projects.

The couple’s Instagram statement reads, in part: “We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage.

“This decision comes from a place of love, respect and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us. While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known.”

The couple confirmed that they will continue working together on their charitable foundation.
