The body of a man was discovered on Bay of Plenty Beach in Durban late on Friday night and it is suspected to be that of missing pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray.
He was 61 and went missing after his light aircraft crashed into the ocean during an airshow on 21 August.
Authorities including Metro police search and rescue, SA police services, and local security attended the scene.
National sea rescue institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the body was taken into care of the police and forensic pathology services for formal identification.
“The family has declined interviews, respectfully requesting privacy in this difficult time,” Lambinon said in his statement.
KwaZulu-Natal police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.
Preliminary investigations suggest the body could be that of the pilot who crashed into the sea last month.
