Pieces of clothing, allegedly stained with blood, were found during a search for missing six-year-old Saldanha Bay child Joslin Smith, police said on Sunday morning.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malcolm Pojie, “clothing” was found in an open field in Middelpos, Saldanha late on Saturday night. “The clothing will be sent to our forensic laboratory for analysis,” said Pojie.

Joslin went missing 12 days ago while in the care of her mother’s boyfriend.

Police Minister Bheki Cele joined the community of Saldanha, Cape Town to search for the little girl on Saturday.

Cele’s visit comes after he lambasted the DA for politicising young Joslin’s disappearance.

The DA had written on its social media pages that it had withdrawn from the search.

Speaking to the community of Diazville in Saldanha, Cele cautioned the residents against allowing politics to divide the community in their efforts to find the six-year-old.

“Unite and work with the police to bring her back home. From the police side, I want to assure you that no resource will be spared to find her; the police have not withdrawn from this search and they are under a directive to work closely with anyone who comes up with any valuable information that can assist,” Cele said.
