South Africa’s Brad Binder climbed from tenth place to fourth in Sunday’s Portuguese MotoGP which saw Jorge Martin come out on top.

Binder may have missed out on a podium finish, but the 28-year-old crossed the finish line just 11.1 seconds after Martin.

Beginning in tenth position meant that Binder required some real determination and skill to close the gap on the six riders above him.

Sunday’s flourish came after crashes in qualifying and at the sprint race, incidents which the KTM rider quickly moved past in preparation of Sunday’s main event.

For Martin, his first lap move to go first would be the turning point, as he simply never looked back winning the second race of the season in style

Enea Bastianini came in second place while teenager Pedro Acosta completed the podium in third.

Champion Francesco Bagnaia crashed out after a late collision with Marc Marquez, ensuring Martin climbed into first place in the standings with his victory to overtake the 27-year-old Ducati rider.
