Inkabi Records owner, rapper and actor Big Zulu, who shot to fame with Imali Eningi, has released his third studio album “Ichwane Lenyoka”.
The new album from the rapper, from Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal, who used to be a taxi driver features artists like Mnqobi Yazo, Cofi the poet, Kwazi, Nhlanhla Mhlongo and the late ProKid.
It follows Big Zulu’s second album “Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe” (Minister of Ministers), which was released in 2019 following the success of his debut album “Ushun Wenkabi”.
His hit single Imali Eningi was made even more popular by former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma, when he posted a video of himself walking with the song playing in the background.
The single from the album “Umuzi eSandton”, which is a love song about promising to buy a girl a house in Sandton, has reached over 1-million views four weeks after it premiered on YouTube.
The 34-year-old – whose real name is Siyabonga Nene – prides himself on being a Zulu, but he never shies away from featuring artists who rap in other languages.
Nene had his breakthrough after years of trying to get into the commercial scene through winning battles on SABC’s Ukhozi FM’s Clev’ Ungagivaphi and YFM’s Siz ‘N Scoop hip hop radio shows.
